Sofia Johnson, AMFT

Sofia is currently a registered Associate Marriage Family Therapist, who is collecting her hours towards licensure.  She is being supervised by Melissa Drivon, a Licensed Marriage Family Therapist.  She began her career as an in-home tutor working with autistic children and families, primarily utilizing  Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) techniques.  While working with these children, her passion for families grew and she ultimately decided to pursue a career with a focus on familial and systems work.

Sofia holds a Bachelors degree in Psychology from California State University of Sacramento and Masters degree in Marriage Family Therapy from Alliant International University.  She is also a member of Psi-Chi International Honors Society and California Association of Marriage Family Therapists.

Before joining the team at Building Foundations Counseling Center, Inc., Sofia has worked in various non-profit agencies, most recently with the White House Counseling Center (WHCC), which is part of the San Juan Unified School District.  While there she worked with children and their families, both at various schools and at the agency site.  Prior to WHCC, she has worked with:  Medi-Cal/Drug Medi-Cal insurance, substance abuse/drug court mandated clients (teens and adults), couples and communication/skill building, and various school districts from Galt to Travis AFB.  She has also volunteered and presented a drug presentation awareness to youths in various schools.
